An impressive room in an impressive home in an impressive corner of London. If there was ever a place that deserved an impressive kitchen, this was it. That was our dream from the moment we stepped inside this breathtaking townhouse. In fact, this was our dream well before we’d even made it that far, while we were still wandering toward the front door, past white wooden sign posts, gravel driveways, period houses and the countryside feel that comes with so much greenery. It is a beautiful setting to set up the perfect home with a kitchen worthy of it all.
And there, at the centre of it all, was a home just as extraordinary; high ceilings, beautiful details, extravagant features, big spacious rooms full of light and original wood flooring, all of which wanted to celebrate with the addition of the new kitchen. Grand yet graceful, soothing yet stirring, relaxing yet evocative, this oh-so-special space deserved an equally special kitchen. Not ostentatious but beautifully practical, with eye-catching details and gentle extravagance that you start to notice over time.
A dining area that basks in the sunlight as it pours through the huge garden doors, a functional kitchen island wrapped in a natural stone worktop and endless storage, and a collection of art deco stools to add a splash of pizzazz to the whole occasion. A bank of pantry cupboards sat against the back wall bookended by a big deep pantry and open shelves that give this room a more personal feel; somewhat grown up and yet completely charming. That is the vibe we wanted to bring to life.
Centred around its bold expanse of natural stone, there are layers to this room; textures and depths that contrast so perfectly with the deep blue shaker cabinets, vintage finds, children’s tidbits and gold hardware as it glimmers in the natural light welcome in by the wall of glass. Yet despite the almost-monochrome feel, there’s a warmth to this space. The beautifully renovated parquet floor is made even more splendid by the detailed ceiling, all of it adding a lovely tactile feel to this kitchen. A townhouse space with unique twists.
The deep farmhouse sink brought to life by the gold faucet, traditional stone counters made exciting by the state-of-the-art Bora hob, and the contemporary clean lines made subtly rustic by the antique accents. That’s the secret to this space. It is subtly grandiose. Beautiful and bold, but in a delicate way that harmonises contrast. From the vintage lights hanging from up high to the variation in furnishing, to the colour palette of light and dark, this kitchen feels daring yet balanced. It feels quietly understated, perfectly proportioned and gracefully grand, just as it should.
That’s what we love so much about this kitchen. We love it for the complete look it achieves, the care that has been taken to complete the look, and the way in which it uses sophistication to feel so stately. It must truly be a fabulous room to come home to.
